Ek Balam Mission

Wow what a experience! We made our first trip to Ek Balam last week with Debi Morris of "Hope For Ek Balam" and we came away changed. As with most mission we think we are going to help other and we in turn are the one's that are changed. Ek Balam is a Mayan Village about 2 hours northeast of Tulum set out in the jungle and is a very peaceful small village. We got to see the grade school and the clinic (small white building in photo), and meet with people in the homes. The people are open and want to improve their village. Debi has been working in Ek Balam for over 3 years and has done a wonderful job spending weeks or months working with the people and leaders.
We did take one of the water treatment kit's we had with use and put it in a home where Debi stay's on her trips to see it the people will use it for drinking water and cooking water. We think it will make a big difference in the way they keep their water and cut down on illness.
Pastor Terry and I did a one night teaching on Small Groups and their importance and will do this again as any teaching is a benefit and we gave our teaching notes to Debi so she can do the same teaching.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be praying about how God wants us to help Debi and her work in Ek Balam. There is alot that could be done to meet the practical needs in the village.
These needs range from first aid kits, water treatment, solar ovens, healthy cooking classes, first aid /Cpr classes, and training for medical and hair lice treatment. This is only a partial list of needs and Debi is putting together her top 10 list of things that need to be done.
What a wonderful opportunity for us to show God's love and help where we can. We are looking forward to another trip to see our friends in Ek Balam with Debi.
